Kim McCarthy

Kim McCarthyKim McCarthy graduated with her Masters of Science in Audiology from Dalhousie University in 1997 and completed her Doctoral degree in Audiology from Salus University in October 2008. Kim is a CASLPA (Canadian Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists) certified audiologist and is a member of CASLPA, SHANS (Speech and hearing Association of Nova Scotia) and Sounds+. Kim comes from a diverse clinical background. Her years of experience working in a hospital setting, in a private practice and for two major international hearing aid manufacturers has resulted in a superior level of knowledge on an number of topics, particularly amplification. Most recently, Kim was the Senior Trainer for a Danish hearing aid company and as such was responsible for travelling to Scandinavia to learn about new and exciting hearing instruments yet to be released to the market. She also provided product training to the Canadian division as well as audiologists throughout Canada. Kim recently moved to Cow Bay with her husband and 2 children, and is excited at the prospect of being home with her family on a consistent basis after spending years traveling from coast to coast. "Although being at the forefront of new technology is exciting, you miss out on the direct patient contact. I am so enjoying learning about my patients' lives, their needs, and helping them not only hear better but live better."


Shelley Poirier

Shelley PoirierShelley joined our team in 2009 as a receptionist in our Upper Tantallon location after working in the banking industry for 13 years. Having come from a family with several hearing impaired individuals she is very understanding and sympathetic of our patients needs and concerns. Shelley's eagerness to learn and willingness to help has led her to complete her studies in Hearing Instrument Sciences and is currently training as a Hearing Instrument Specialist alongside Kim. Shelley is looking forward to providing patients with the expert care that they are accustomed to receiving at The Hearing Specialists for many years to come.

Shelley has lived in Timberlea most of her life where she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.


Janet Horne

Janet HorneJanet came to work with The Hearing Specialists in January 2008 and she works in our Elmsdale location. With 30 years of customer service experience in the health care field, she brought a wealth of experience with her and has recently completed her Hearing Instrument Sciences course through the International Hearing Society.

Janet is caring and compassionate and you can always count on her to go the extra mile to help patients with their hearing health care needs.

As a native of Enfield, she is thrilled to be able to offer assistance to those in her community.

In her spare time she enjoys kayaking, gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends.


Heather Stevens

Heather StevensHeather is the newest member of our team and she works in our Upper Tantallon location. She joined us in 2011, bringing with her many years of experience in the health care field. Her friendly, outgoing personality have made her a hit with patients and staff alike.

Heather grew up in the south shore and currently calls Hubbard's home. Heather is happy to be able to help people in her own community!

In her free time she enjoys reading, sailing and walking her dog!
